Describing her work and process Amanda says “”Fashion, interior design, vintage Americana and film – all weave their way into and inspire my work. I’m forever in awe and influenced by a range of artists including Gustav Klimt, Peter Doig, and Martine Johanna amongst many more contemporary painters. I approach my work using source imagery from the internet and fashion magazines exploring the translation of images into paint. Seeking an otherworldly middle ground between realism, illustration and painterly abstraction. My work often features young, glamorous “women with attitude”, set in shallow spaces and offset by a feeling of melancholy. Contrasting candy colours with gold leaf, and incorporating refined blended painting techniques with looser, gestural brush marks”.
